WITH US OCTOBER 1ST

So the Pope has been and gone with much talk of whether there’s religion on this little Isle.  Well I’ve seen the light and now everything is clear – we have religion and it’s MMA.  After months of watching our MMA boys prepare for their fights I realise that this is their religion and that I am a member of their congregation.

Yep two weeks after The Contender, I still feel the same and yes this post is a little late…sorry folks.

I love Contender night and I know that I am in good company when I say that.  It’s one of those nights when most fighters are entering the ring for the first time, it’s one of those nights when the fighters are entering the ring for the only time – for many it’s that once in a lifetime experience. September 2^nd did not disappoint   As always an amazing atmosphere, the DJ got the place rocking and our very own ring girls Nicole and Lucy looked lovely in (more…)

Cage Warriors Fighting Championship (CWFC) and Warrior Promotions.
  
Boylan, takes control of the UK’s longest standing MMA Event, the Cage Warriors Fighting Championship and he is now putting plans in place for CWFC 38, which takes place in London on October 1st. A show which he has already 75% sold out.
 
Boylan who runs four successful gyms, three in London called The MMA Clinic and one in Ireland called The Boxing Clinic has plans for the development of the sport, both in the UK and Ireland.

Big shout out to all the boys who fought @ the Seni 2010 this weekend , The MMA Clinic came away with 5 medals for such a new club this is big news all the fighters and supporting members that turned out did the club proud . April the 18th saw The MMA & Boxing Clinic fighters, members,friends, family and fans and other clubs around London and the Uk pack out the HMV Forum Kentishtown to witness what was an education for the public in mixed martial arts. April 18^th D Day – “The Beginning”

A near capacity crowd at the HMV Kentish Town Forum witnessed its first ever night of MMA in Central London.  News of Volcanic disruptions had filtered through on Saturday but as the first fighters made their way to the cage, the crowd erupted and didn’t lay dormant until the very end of the very last fight.  Here’s what happened… (more…)

So here we are – fight night a matter of days away and somehow the gym feels different.  It’s enveloped in a different sort of energy…nervous, excited energy that’s about to pop and hopefully that will happen right on cue this Sunday.

I looked.  I really did but there was little love in the cage on Wednesday night (7^th April).

Although little talking, it was a noisy session…the sounds of regulated breathing, the sounds of bodies sprawling on the mat, running on the spot, letting out groans of pain, the sounds of exhaustion.  And all the while abuse from the man they all respect…the coach. (more…)

35 days to go until ‘The Beginning.’

So for 90mins last night I sat with my eyes and mouth wide open.  Just over a month to go until the big show and Paul was in no mood for messing.  The intensity of the training was palpable…. no voices just heavy breaths, grunts and that sweet sound of punches and kicks hitting their targets and bodies being slammed to the mat.

The MMA Clinic does Brighton. Sunday September 20th 2009.

It’s early, it’s Sunday and by rights everyone should still be bundled in bed. But this is no ordinary Sunday, it’s the day when months of training are put to the test as six of the MMA Clinic’s best, head down to Brighton for their first competitive tournament as a squad.

Meet Adam Willoughby –Clinic boxing and muay thai coach.

Adam is hard-core.  Well he would have to be hanging out with Ben Woods.  First impressions are of a shy, young guy but then I find out that he’s had 15 competitive muay thai fights – a couple for UK titles and 6 fights in Thailand, in some of their biggest stadiums as well as on Thai TV.

So it is fitting that Adam is one of the new batch of coaches imparting his expertise in the (more…)

It was the fourth Contender night and there were two things on our minds – pulling and punching. As I’m not one for gossip, I’m not sure how successful the pulling was but take it from me the punching was perfection.

I had a hunch the Contenders were inspired by London Fashion Week, as the Contenders cut a sartorial swag strutting into the Ring like supermodels taking to the catwalk. Dave Gaunt (more…)

Meet Paul Hines’ apprentice, Tony White

At 24 years of age, Tony White is the baby of the Clinic’s staff and so it’s fitting that he should be working under the guidance of Mr Experience, Paul Hines.
As I write this, he is assisting the feisty Ben Vickers in a beginner’s MMA class – he is yin to Vickers yang. (more…)

The boxing clinics first training camp took place last weekend and saw a group of clinic members take to the Devonshire countryside armed with some tents a mini bus and some boxing equipment!

Day one saw the boys and girls up at 7am for a group run. The local countryside was built for training and some serious fun was had on the hills!

After a quick shower and breakfast the ring went up in the field and the rest of the morning was spent training. (more…)
