Turn on…Tune in.
Jake has a swagger. The kind of swagger that wouldn’t be out of place next to Clint Eastwood in one of his early movies. Thankfully, he’s not famous for those deafening awkward silences; he’s engaging and articulate. In fact, if I had my own radio show I would want Jake as a guest – not because he has a good (more…)

That’s Rhiannon “The Mini Beast” Coleman.
The club’s focus this weekend belongs to one Clinic member and that is Rhiannon Coleman, our first and currently only female MMA fighter. She heads down to Portsmouth with her coach Paul Hines and a convoy of keen supporters to embark on her first (more…)

Every Day’s a School Day.
Every single shot is countered with feedback – that’s a training session with John Tandy. There’s a real buzz at the prospect of being coached by him and so I thought I would turn up to see the man in action – not quite brave enough to book a 1-2-1, I just sat on the edge of the ring with the rest of the hopefuls to watch the magic happen. (more…)

John Tandy is a disarming character.
To me his eyes say way more than what comes from his mouth but it was his email in reply to my many questions that made me do a double take. In a world where the language is from the gutter and the stench of the gym closer to the sewer it was refreshing to hear someone speak so passionately (more…)

People seem to hate it when you refer to them as nice – I guess to many it might seem a bit of a pedestrian description. But, what label do you give to someone that is decent, generous, focussed, fun, not afraid to look stupid (he likes silly dancing) and is the ultimate team player – well nice sort of sums this guy up. But don’t be fooled – when competing he leaves nice in the locker room, he takes no prisoners!
I’m talking about Pat Vickers – if you train at the Angel gym you will have almost certainly done a class with him as he boxes, he kicks, he grapples, he’s an all round cardio bunny and (more…)

26 Days to go until Cage Warriors 40
I’ve watched the advanced MMA squad training for some time now and I’ve come to the conclusion that they’re a breed apart and that coach, Paul Hines is a mean ‘turd.
At first I thought he’d gone a little soft, it all looked a bit tame – 10 of this and 10 of that, I could have sworn I even heard him say “please”. (more…)

I recently attended the Friday night and Saturday morning sparring sessions to check out September’s Contenders – it was a tale of two sessions. Friday night Ben V encouraged the guys to picture their fights, when they shadow box to go through their game plan…”these are your rehearsals, “ he shouted. He was keen for them to go through the rounds at a high intensity but at a relaxed pace – essentially clock up the (more…)

Interview by Seymour Yang photographs by Gussie for kombat news !

Introduction
At 26 years of age, Michael Russell is currently the youngest British BJJ black belt. Since beginning his training in 2004 he has shot from beginner to black belt in just under six years. Whilst he is often cited as one of the most talented young grapplers in the country, and is known for his innovative and inventive techniques, Michael’s journey has not gone without incident or drama. Michael took time out from his

Great films and now coming to a class near you! -
If I had a cat and it got stuck up a tree, Rich Mitchell is the guy I would ask to coax it down; such is his calm and persuasive manner. He comes across as patient and his instructions are clear but oh my Lord, what a filthy mouth! For an hour on Thursday I watched him coach the new wrestling class – he made it look like the most logical way to entangle and untangle yourself from another. With the volume down it looked like a love making session with the (more…)

Have you ever wondered what our esteemed coaches Paul and Ben V get up to on the weekends when they’re not terrorising us? No, me neither…. until I heard what they were doing the weekend of the London Marathon.
It’s amazing what you learn when you actually engage with people. Not only do they parade around Hampstead Ponds in the summer wearing nothing but Speedos (whilst on life guard duty) they also are responsible for protecting the front runners at the London (more…)

Sporting success seems to follow George, so it’s fitting that he is the latest coach to be added to an already esteemed list. Born in Athens, Greece he represented his country in Athletics at the Sydney Olympics and within a year of joining The Boxing Clinic he became the heavyweight champion.
But success does not come without a little effort, a point that George will be hammering home in his classes (more…)

Nicole and Lucy are hot! Annoyingly they’re also smart, dare I say it….nice and they frickin’ look good in their underwear.
Never has there been so much debate on our facebook page as when their pix were posted. Sadly judged by some before we’ve even had a chance to get to know them….now people, that’s not fair. So without further a do let’s set the record straight and get to know our girls. Because that’s who they are, they’re OUR ring girls, appearing at all of our shows.

33 days to go until “The Beginning”.
It’s St Patrick’s Day at the Clinic and as if we needed reminding, Amit the least looking Irish man you could find, arrives in his St Patrick’s t-shirt with ‘I heart Guinness’ on the front…I was disappointed the walls hadn’t been painted green for the night too.
And so to business. Training business. This is a real team. Another fantastic turn out when I’m sure this (more…)

Although he chose one of the coldest weeks in decades to pay the MMA Clinic a visit – his welcome was anything but chilly.
As corner man to UFC champions, Matt Hughes and Robbie Lawler – being a guest coach in the UK was a first for Fiore. So magnetic was his appearance at the Clinic, artic conditions and winter’s erratic transport did little to deter members as each session was packed full with fighters eager to soak up the tips being tossed their way. She’ll jump through hoops to win the Contender!
Elle Rose thinks she’s got a big nose! But it’s not her nose that first strikes you when you meet her. Although her name sounds like something from a bygone era she’s very much of the moment. She dresses like a rock chick and has more tatt’s than Amy Winehouse – I guess we’ll find out if she can sing at the Christmas party. (more…)

CONNOISSEUR OF THE FINER THINGS…AND FIGHTING!
If you’re wondering who Harry is, he’s the guy who looks like the dad of the annoying twins John and Edward from the X Factor. However that’s where the resemblance ends. Harry has a big personality, when he’s in the gym you know! He’s a man with an encyclopaedic knowledge of all things combat and a haircut from a bygone era…more about the hair later. He’s the kind of guy you’d want to have a pint with because most of what comes out of his mouth is entertaining. (more…)

Meet the MMA Clinic’s Danielle West.
She has a weakness for handbags but if she gets you in the cage, she won’t be hitting you with them, as she’ll be too busy squeezing you into submission with her steely thighs. Danielle West is the Clinic’s resident female cage fighting pro. Click here and you will see just (more…)
