KICKING ASS

Meet Adam Willoughby –Clinic boxing and muay thai coach.

AdamAdam is hard-core.  Well he would have to be hanging out with Ben Woods.  First impressions are of a shy, young guy but then I find out that he’s had 15 competitive muay thai fights – a couple for UK titles and 6 fights in Thailand, in some of their biggest stadiums as well as on Thai TV.

So it is fitting that Adam is one of the new batch of coaches imparting his expertise in the

boxing and muay thai sessions.  He loves being part of the MMA Clinic as he thinks it’s “well organised, successful, fun and friendly”.   Like all of our coaches he has his own style, “I’m technical.  I think if you get a good solid base of technique you can build from there. If you’re gonna do it do it right!”

You don’t have 15 big fights without doing some serious fitness (which Adam ensures is a huge part of his coaching Adam1sessions) and he trains 6 days a week – having Sunday as his day of rest – just as God intended.  “On a Monday, Wednesday and Friday I focus on muay thai sparring and pads.  Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday I run or work on some conditioning.”  He says that he’s drawn to combat sports for the challenge, as they’re the toughest sports around.

Too much training makes Adam a dull boy so I was interested to find out a little more about life outside of the gym.  Born in Chertsey, at 27 he’s the youngest of three brothers.  Although a quiet chap, bollocks is his favourite curse word and he claims to use it “as often as possible.”  His perfect day would be to relax on a deserted beach but in real life, he’s happiest when he’s training.
